A quick study and recreation of the healing beam effect from Overwatch.
It makes use of a twisting texture for the beam that as it pans appears to be twisting around despite the texture being rendered on a series of flat quads. In addition the beam is completely resizable and adjustable using a series of handles and a bezier curve to control its shape.
